Yoga Sutra 1.14 says:
sa tu dīrghakāla nairantarya satkāra-āsevito dr̥ḍhabhūmiḥ
In order for your spiritual practice to develop into a firm foundation (dr̥ḍhabhūmiḥ), you need to satisfy 4 conditions:
- Perseverance in practice (dīrghakāla) – Patiently sustain your practice for a long period.
- Consistency and Regularity in practice (nairantarya) – Do your spiritual practice daily and preferably at a fixed time.
- The mood of reverence (satkāra) – Assign a high value to your practice and therefore prioritize your spiritual life over everything else.
- The mood of service toward the object of practice (āsevito) – Carry feelings of gratitude and a mood of service toward the object of your practice (which is God – the source of your existence).
